The F-117A Nighthawk Page!

The F-117A Stealth Fighter a.k.a. "Nighthawk" is the world's first and operational fighter/bomber aircraft. With R.A.M. (Radar Absorbing Material), it can slip past the most technological advanced protection against warehouse, chemical plants and airbases to name a few. In the 1970's, the United States government wanted an aircraft that could be invisible to radar and slip all known types of radar. Lockheed Martin got the contract to making the F-117A Nighthawk. With extensive tests done for about 8-9 years, the Nighthawk was ready for service. When the Gulf War came around in the early 1990's, this was the best time to test the F117A in combat situations and it proved invaluable. Not one was lost while performing bomb runs against the most heavily guarded fortifications. The F-117A Nighthawk is also the first fighter aircraft to have an internal weapons store hold so that the weaponry will not give away its position. This idea is now being used in Lockheed Martin's present and future weapons like F22 Raptor and RAH66 Comanche helicopter. It also has a non afterburning engines that cools down the exhaust so that heat seeking missiles can't track it. F117, Nighthawk, silent but deadly.
